10 Things to Do Within 30 Minutes of Our Cornish Campsite

If you’re after a camping park with top amenities in Cornwall, Tregarton Park would love to welcome you this summer.

Located just outside Mevagissey on the south coast, our family-run site offers modern facilities and a fantastic base for exploring the surrounding area. From walks on the coast to historic landmarks, here are ten things to do within 30 minutes of Tregarton Park.

1. Visit The Lost Gardens of Heligan

Only 10 minutes away, The Lost Gardens of Heligan are one of Cornwall’s most beloved attractions. Here you can wander through subtropical jungle, explore Victorian gardens, and discover over 200 acres of horticultural history.

2. Stroll Around Mevagissey Harbour

Just 5 minutes from the campsite, Mevagissey is a working fishing village with cobbled streets, independent shops and a picturesque harbour. It’s the perfect spot for fish and chips or a boat trip along the coast.

3. Explore Charlestown Harbour

About 20 minutes away, this historic port is famous for its striking ships and appearances in TV dramas like Poldark. The Shipwreck Treasure Museum is also worth a visit if you’re a fan of maritime history.

4. Chill out at Pentewan Sands

Only a 10-minute drive away, this sandy beach is ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, and building sandcastles. There’s also a beachfront café for refreshments after a dip. We’re also close to many other beautiful beaches.

5. Discover Caerhays Castle and Gardens

Just 15 minutes away, Caerhays is a gem at this time of year. While the castle itself has limited access to the public, the gardens are home to one of the UK’s best collections of camellias and magnolias.

6. Cycle the Pentewan Trail

This relaxing trail runs from St Austell to the beach at Pentewan, passing woodland, riverbanks and scenic views. You can either bring your bikes or hire ones locally for a fun family activity.

7. Spend a Day at the Eden Project

Roughly 25 minutes away, the Eden Project is one of Cornwall’s most iconic destinations. Walk through the world’s largest indoor rainforest and learn about sustainability in an interactive setting.

8. Go Crabbing at Gorran Haven

Only 5 minutes from Tregarton Park, Gorran Haven is a peaceful village with a small sandy beach and ideal spots for crabbing with kids.

9. Tour Wheal Martyn Clay Works

Located about 25 minutes away, this museum offers a fascinating insight into Cornwall’s industrial heritage. With interactive displays, nature trails and clay pits, it’s both educational and engaging.

10. Enjoy a Cream Tea in St Austell

As the nearest town (15 minutes away), St Austell offers plenty of cafes and tea rooms where you can enjoy a proper Cornish cream tea – jam first, of course.

Whether you want beach days, to walk with your dog, or family-friendly fun, there’s no shortage of activities nearby. All within a 30-minute drive, these spots offer something for everyone, making your stay at Tregarton Park not just comfortable – but memorable too.
