A Week at a Family-Run Campsite in Cornwall: What to Expect

Choosing between the many campsites in Cornwall can be bewildering. From back-to-basics sites to large holiday sites and coastal retreats, there’s plenty to pick from. If you have children and are looking for somewhere genuinely welcoming, it’s best to choose a family-run park.

Here at Tregarton Park, near Mevagissey, we’ve built our 12-acre touring and camping park around that personal touch. If you’re wondering what a week with us looks like, here’s what you can expect this summer!

A Warm Welcome from Day One

When you stay at our family-run campsite in Cornwall, you’re not just a booking reference. You’re our guest.

As a privately owned park run by the Hicks family, we take pride in keeping everything clean, friendly and efficiently organised. From the moment you arrive, we focus on helping you settle in and start relaxing straight away.

We’re open from 1st May to 26th September 2026, giving you the best of the Cornish late spring and summer season. On 1st May, the park opens along with our shop, swimming pool and takeaway, so everything is ready from the very start of the season.

Space, Privacy and Well-Maintained Pitches

One thing guests often notice is the space. Not all campsites in Cornwall offer such generously sized pitches.

At Tregarton Park, all our pitches give you breathing room and are carefully divided with hedging and shrubs. You’ll never feel like you’re camping on top of your neighbours. Whether you’re bringing a touring caravan, motorhome or tent, you’ll have your own individual space to relax.

Some of our pitches are ‘awning friendly’ gravel hard standings, ideal if you prefer extra stability. All pitches have electric hook-ups, making your stay more comfortable and practical, especially for longer breaks.

Spectacular Views of Coast and Countryside

A week here gives you the best of both worlds. From the park, you can enjoy coastal and countryside views, yet we’re only a short drive from St Austell and within easy reach of beaches.

We’re ideally placed for visiting the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project and even the Flambards theme park. The harbour village of Mevagissey is just minutes away, perfect for an afternoon wandering around galleries, craft shops and traditional fishing boats.

You can spend your mornings exploring South Cornwall and your evenings back on site, enjoying the quieter atmosphere that smaller camping parks are known for.

Designed with Families in Mind

While we welcome couples too, we find our park is especially suited to younger children. Our adventure playground has been designed with this age group in mind, giving them somewhere safe and enjoyable to burn off energy.

The swimming pool is open from 1st May to 25th September, offering a great way to cool off during warmer weeks. Our on-site shop and takeaway are also open from 1st May, with both closing on 25th September as the season draws to an end.

Because we accept families and couples only, the overall atmosphere stays relaxed and friendly throughout the season, including popular weeks such as Spring Bank (23rd May) and August Bank Holiday (31st August).

Properly Switch Off this Summer

A week at a family-run campsite in Cornwall isn’t about bright lights or packed entertainment schedules. It’s about slowing down.

At Tregarton Park, you can wake up to fresh Cornish air, spend your day exploring beaches or attractions, and return to a peaceful pitch where you can sit outside and enjoy the evening.

If you’re looking for campsites in Cornwall that offer space, personal care and a genuine welcome, that’s exactly what we aim to provide. For us, it’s not just about running our park. It’s about helping you have a happy, memorable holiday from May right through to late September.
